Witaj (or not)

Today a friend of my mother's is coming at home, he'll stay for a week or so. I would lie if I said I'm delighted to see him but it seems to make her pleased, so I guess I'd better smile and say nothing. At least he's a cellist. Oh, and he comes from Poland. A Polish cellist. Yeah. So they're gonna talk to each other in German (Mum cannot speak Polish, even though she tried to learn a few words). And I'll have to talk to him in English (I cannot speak Polish either, and I didn't even try to learn a few words). What a mess...

The happy birthday song

Sing me happy birthday Sing it like it's going to be your last day Like it's hallelujah Don't just let it pass on through ya It's a giant and long cliché And that's why i want you to sing it anyway Sing me happy birthday 'cause hell, what's it all about? So... Seems like it's gonna be the end of this globalwarming thing. I've tried my best to help as much as I could, but I must admit I haven't been very regular, sorry. But I've been quite busy lately. Anyway. I wonder if this site will keep running when the contest is over. Would be great, I suppose. I would even make an effort to write more. Yeah, really, I would.

Today I've started studying for my exams, which will take place in two weeks time. And believe me, reviewing all my notes in two weeks won't be that easy. In fact the amount of pages that are wating for me is rather scary. ... Yeah, that's all.

What's the matter Mary Jane ?

What's the matter Mary Jane ? You had a hard day As you place the don't disturb sign on the door You lost your place in line again, what a pity You never seem to wanna dance anymore It's a long way down On this rollercoaster The last chance street car Went off the track And you're on it I hear you're counting sheep again, Mary Jane What's the point of trying to dream anymore ? I hear you're losing weight again, Mary Jane Do you ever wonder who you're losing it for ? Well it's full speed baby In the wrong direction There's a few more bruises If that's the way You insist on heading Please be honest Mary Jane Are you happy ? Please don't censor your tears You're the sweet crusader And you're on your way You're the last great innocent And that's why I love you So take this moment Mary Jane And be selfish Worry not about the cars that go by 'Cause all that matters Mary Jane is your freedom So keep warm my dear Keep dry... Alanis Morissette.

I've just come back from the hairdresser so my hair is short again, which I find very practical : I'll be able to get up a few minutes later in the morning because drying it won't take so much time anymore !

The exams are very close now and I'm beginning to feel very stressed. Too stressed, I would say. But on the other hand it means this awful year is about to come to an end. At last. I just hope everything will go the right way...

The Arcade Fire is back, and their music sounds as good as ever. Tomorrow the results of a contest I've been taking part in (and which has absolutely no connection with Globalwarming Awareness2007, in case you wondered) will be disclosed. I don't believe I will win. But it was fun to participate anyway.

Solo musica italiana

Tonight I'm listening to a playlist made only of old (and some not-so-old) Italian songs. My favourite one at the moment is Canzonenoznac from Roberto Vecchioni. I love the lyrics and there's a nice cello solo. I love Italian music. And I love the Italian language, even though I can barely say a few words in this language now... Anyway. I know it's still here, in a small part of my head, waiting quietly for me to rediscover it. (And I can still understand it, which can be every useful sometimes.)

Today...

... was just like any other day. I got up at 5:30 to finish my homework, then I went to school, tried to listen to my teachers, watched the rain pouring outside... When I came back from school my trousers were soaking wet. I also saw firemen who were extinguishing a fire that had broken out in a car. It was quite frightening. (And it created a giant traffic jam.) To tell the truth, Tuesday is the day of French and English lessons so it's not the most boring day in the week. And studying Marcel Proust - unlike many other authors that (in my opinion) are being "over-interpreted" - is really delightful because it helps you understand a lot of things in his books. Oh, and I had a talk with a friend who's got one of the most beautiful and sweetest names in the world, and who seems to be missing playing theatre as much as I miss playing music, which consoled me a bit. It's funny, she seems to be so shy that you would hardly guess that she likes playing theatre. People are strange, sometimes.

Back to school !

I think those holidays were the worst holidays I've ever had. Everything went wrong, many things happened that made me sad and I didn't have the time to do anything I would have liked to do. Really dreadful. Fortunately I'm going back to school tomorrow so I'll just (try to) work (very hard) and I won't have any time left to think about all those things that went wrong. That's all.

Birds refuse to fly, no longer trust the sky

I've got nothing to say today. Or at least nothing I would want everybody to know about. So...What if I showed you the lyrics of a song I've been listening to a lot these days ? Calexico - Panic Open String Panic open string, power grids blackout Birds all fly in numbers down to the ground Reassure the blades of green, green grass Season's still asleep more or less Wind is gearing up for a reckless ride Leaning accidental on nature's side Propeller power fields, solar panel sides Lightning bolts connect, it's with you I will go I close my eyes and the seasons pass Above the cityscape, the city out of reach Way beyond our lives, [up into the sky]* Far below the green My dreams are all blue, so is my heart Light up screens of you, if you could only see Time's dreams escape, late into the night When the stars align reminds me of you Words will lose their fear And I will find their truth Church bells in the hills they will ring and ring Ocean's to the coast will cling to their host The sun will split in two, sink thru an empty sky It's where we'll go when we Leave this place and die * The booklet mentions those words but the singer does not pronounce them... Strange.

Pompon, the Japanese quince

Pompon is a Japanese quince (also known as flowering quince or chaenomeles) which lies next to the door of my house. As far as I can recall, he's always been there. In Winter it is as ugly as Brossadent : only depressing and nude branches. But when Spring begins, it's full of lovely pink little flowers and small green leaves. This year the flowers are already there ! It's probably due to the not-very-cold Winter we had this year. Here they are, those little pink flowers. Not as numerous as in Spring, but wait for a few weeks and you'll see :) In French, Japanese quinces are called "pommiers du Japon"... Hence Pompon's name. Ahem...
